City slates ‘Stars, Stripes and Steals’

Franklin’s Promotion and Economic Restructuring Committees of the Franklin Main Street Program, the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce and Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau are working together to continue the energy on Main Street with “Stars, Stripes and Steals: A Holiday Shopping Spree.”
The event will take place at 1-7 p.m. Thursday, July 2 on Main Street.
Part of the holiday shopping spree is a bus trip from Patterson to Franklin. All passengers must meet the bus at 1 p.m. at the Wedell-Williams Aviation Museum, and the bus will leave at 1:30 p.m. for Franklin. Once passengers arrive in Franklin they will go to the Old City Market for shopping on Willow Street. From there they will go to Shadowlawn and spend the rest of the afternoon touring and shopping before heading to Joe’s on the Bayou from 5-7 p.m. for dinner and music.
The nonrefundable deposit to reserve a spot on the bus is $20. Call the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce at 985-384-3830 to reserve.
“We want to keep the energy on Main Street going,” Mayor Raymond Harris Jr. said. “Hopefully, this will be just the beginning of many bus tours that will come to Franklin. This is our first step in improving tourism in St. Mary Parish, particularly in Franklin. Main Street Program Manager will be visiting the businesses that have not signed on to participate in this event to encourage them to be a part of our efforts to increase tourism and foster economic development in Franklin. Businesses that have signed on are offering special deals from 1 to 7 p.m., and I encourage other businesses to do the same. This could really be good for Franklin!”
