Cooler weather on the way this weekend

After weeks of record-setting temperatures, south Louisiana may be about to get a break.
The high temperature forecast for today is 95 degrees – nothing strange after the recent heat wave, in which mid- to high-90s temperatures have been an everyday occurrence. Even at that, the region got off lucky compared to points north, where triple-digit highs and heat indexes in the 115-degree range have been the rule.
As a front moves through, the high Friday will be only 90 degrees here, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
The low Friday night will be in the mid-70s.
Then, on Saturday, the temperature goes down while the rain chances go up.
The high temperatures for the weekend will be in the mid- to high 80s, according to the NWS forecast.
The chance of storms will range from 30 percent Saturday night to 50 percent during the day Sunday.
The worst of the heat wave for the Tri-City area probably was about 2 p.m. Monday afternoon, when the high reached 97 degrees at Patterson and the heat index – the combined effects of heat and humidity – hit 113 degrees.
The forecast for next week indicates that highs will be back in the low 90s with substantially elevated chances for rain each day.
