Fiery crash in Schriever leaves 3 dead
Three people, including a 30-year-old Patterson man, were killed in a two-vehicle crash Monday on La. 24 when a pickup truck crossed the median, overturned and struck an oncoming pickup truck, according to a State Police troop C news release.
Shortly before 6:30 p.m. Monday, Louisiana State Police Troop C troopers began investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed three people on La. 24 in Terrebonne Parish.
The investigation revealed that a 1998 Dodge Ram truck was traveling north on La. 24 near St. George Street in Schriever. The Dodge was being driven by Jordan Mayon, 19, of Houma. The Dodge was traveling at a high rate of speed on La. 24 as it entered an S curve near the St. George Street intersection, the release said. Mayon failed to negotiate the curve and the Dodge began to rotate counter-clockwise as it traveled off the left side of La. 24, police said.
The Dodge continued across a small grass median where it began to overturn and enter the southbound lanes of La. 24. A 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Kendric Prince, 30, of Patterson, was traveling south on La. 24. Prince was unable to avoid the crash and struck the overturned Dodge, police said.
Immediately following the impact, both vehicles became engulfed in flames. Mayon, Prince, and a passenger in Prince’s vehicle, Shannon Tassin, 54, of Reserve, were unable to escape the vehicles and were pronounced dead on the scene by a Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office representative. Due to the extent of damage from the fire, troopers were unable to determine if seat belts were used during the crash, the release stated.
Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation, police said.
