Staff Report

A fire at a Franklin Street residence this morning left one firefighter with a minor concussion and heavy fire damage to the garage and rear of the house, Morgan City Fire Chief Morris Price said.
Firefighters got a call of heavy fire from a residence and responded shortly before 6 a.m. today, Price said.
One firefighter on scene “took a hit to the head” resulting in a minor concussion, the chief said. The firefighter was treated and released from Teche Regional Medical Center, he said.
Twelve off-duty and 10 on-duty firefighters responded to the fire that started in the back corner of the garage, which is suspected to have been started by a space heater. Upon arrival, heavy fire was coming from the rear of the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Price said.
The residence sustained heavy smoke damage throughout, Price said. Firefighters left the scene around 8 a.m.
