Fire Dist. 11 helps clean up town park

Baldwin’s town park received a face lift this week when St. Mary Parish Fire Dist. 11 lent its talents to the effort.
Fire Chief Clarence Clark and a crew of volunteer firefighters pressure-washed parts of the park that were in need of attention. Bathrooms, dugouts, concession stands and bleachers all received a hosing in an effort to make the park more beautiful.
A few club members helped pick up trash while the washing took place to give the park its best possible appearance.
Chief Clark said the park cleaning had more than one benefit. “We thought this would be a good idea and help attract more kids,” Clark said. “A clean park means a clean environment, the kids may come out now,” he said.
Committee chairman Alderwoman Margaret “Faye” Coleman said the Charenton Road Park is not the only one on its radar. “Our next project is to beautify the Branch Street Park location,” she said.
Clark said efforts such as this one, he hopes will encourage others. “I think we’re setting a positive example about getting out and doing what we can do, we can empower the younger generation to come out and do what they can.”
St. Mary Fire District 11 serves Four Corners, Sorrell, Glencoe and Louisa.
