Head-on crash in Terrebonne Parish leaves 2 dead and 1 injured

Shortly before 09:30 pm Saturday, Louisiana State Police Troop C troopers began investigating a head-on crash on La. 56 in Terrebonne Parish that left two dead and one injured, A state police report stated.
The investigation revealed that a 1989 Chevrolet G10 Van was traveling south on La. 56 in Terrebonne Parish.  The Chevrolet was being driven by Dale Neilson Jr., 44, of Houma, police said.  For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane of La. 56 as it was traveling south, police said.  At the same time, a 2005 GMC Canyon Pickup Truck was traveling north on La. 56 approaching the Chevrolet, police said. The GMC was being driven by Gene Fanguy, 55, of Chauvin, police said. 
The GMC was unable to avoid the Chevrolet, and the two vehicles struck in the northbound lane of La. 56, police said.  Both drivers were pronounced dead on the scene by a Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office representative, police said.
Fanguy was properly restrained at the time of the crash, while Neilson was not properly restrained, police said.
  A 19-year-old female passenger in the GMC, who was wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries in the crash and was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center, police said.
Alcohol impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash on the part of Neilson., police said.  Routine toxicology tests are pending for both drivers.  The crash remains under investigation.
