Head Start begins local graduations

With high school graduations over, it’s Head Start children’s turn to march across a stage and receive their “diploma.”
In St. Mary Parish, over 100 Head Start students will be graduating this week and moving on to Kindergarten next year. The ceremonies are as follows:
—Bambi Head Start Center, Tuesday, May 17 at 10 a.m. at West St. Mary Civic Center
—Tweety Bird Head Start Center, Wednesday, May 18 at 9 a.m. at Berwick Civic Center
—Baby Bear Head Start Center, Thursday, May 19 at 12 p.m. at Siracusa Recreation Center
—Snow White and Cinderella Head Start Centers – Thursday, May 19 at 9 a.m. at Bayou Vista Center
—Mickey Mouse Head Start Center, Friday, May 20 at 12 p.m. at West St. Mary Civic Center
—Peter Pan Head Start Center, Monday, May 23 at 10 a.m. at Peter Pan Gymnasium.
As part of the ceremony, graduates will showcase many skills they have learned during the school year, including comprehension skills, speaking ability, math, days of the week, colors and shapes.
“We are so proud of our children and families, and of course our teachers, who worked diligently all year long to ensure that school readiness goals were a part of every lesson taught,” said Almetra J. Franklin, CEO. “I am confident that our Head Start children entering Kindergarten next year are ready, prepared and will be highly successful.”
