Head Start raises awareness

St. Mary CAA Head Start students spent the last few days of October reminding their parents and the community that breast cancer is a disease that affects everyone. On Oct. 31 one student and a parent from Peter Pan, Bambi, Mickey Mouse and Snow White Head Start centers joined David Teno, Fatherhood coordinator, to present a Breast Cancer Awareness “Healing Hands” banner to the radiology department at Franklin Foundation Hospital. Matt P. Barrilleaux, director of radiology, said, “Anytime we can be a part of something positive that raises awareness in the community and sheds light on an issue like breast cancer is something we want to always support,” he said. Teno also noted that, “It was so gratifying to see the parent turnout; especially the fathers, not just today, but all while the project was taking place.” All students and centers created banners; however the banner that was actually presented was made by the students at Snow White Head Start Center.
