Centerville Bulldogs whip AES Blue Gators
CENTERVILLE _ Jaylon Williams, Marvin Strawder and Lance Howard all scored in double figures, leading the Centerville Bulldogs to a 55-38 District 7-1A triumph over the Ascension Episcopal School Blue Gators Friday at the Centerville High School Gym.
With the win, the Centerville High School Bulldogs improved to 7-5 overall and 4-0 in District 7-1A.
AES is now 7-9 overall and 3-1 in 7-1A.
Centerville blew open a close game over the final three quarters en route to the huge 55-38 victory and a perfect 4-0 league record.
AES earned a 17-13 lead at the end of the first quarter before the Bulldogs caught fire and replaced the short-lived deficit with a scintillating victory.
Centerville went on a 13-6 flurry in the second quarter for a 26-23 halftime cushion.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs flexed their collective muscles to a commanding 38-25 cushion thanks to a 12-2 run in the third quarter.
Centerville built an insurmountable advantage in the fourth quarter after going on a 17-13 scoring spree, posting the 55-38 league victory.
Williams tossed in a game-high 16 points on 3-2’s, 2-3’s along with 4 of 7 free throws. Marvin Strawder bagged 2-2’s, 2-3’s and 2 of 4 charity shots for his 12 points. Howard pumped in 12 points of his own on 4-2’s and 4 of 7 freebies.
Other top scorers for the Centerville Bulldogs were: Marquis Strawder, 9 points, 3-2’s, 1-3 pointer; Cole Candella, 2; Jayvien Thomas, 2; and Desmond Monette, 2.
On the night, Centerville made good on 12 of 22 attempts from behind the charity stripe.
Leading scorers for AES were: Ronald LeBlanc, 14; Eli Mouton, 9; Jake Arceneaux, 8 and Jake Vascocu, 7.

AES gets by CHS
CENTERVILLE _ A strong second quarter surge helped the Ascension Episcopal Lady Gators slipped past the Cetnerville Lady Bulldogs 35-32 in District 7-1A action here Friday at the Centerville Gym.
AES benefited from a 20-7 second run to gain a 25-11 halftime lead of which it would not relinquish.
The Lady Blue Gators nudged past CHS Lady Bulldogs by a narrow 5-4 margin at the end of the initial stanza. Ascension Episcopal rallied behind a 20-7 flurry in the second quarter, taking the 25-11 halftime lead. Centerville answered with an 11-2 run in the third quarter to knot the game at 22-all. AES pulled out the hard-fought victory with a 13-10 rally down the stretch.
Centerville’s leading scorers were: Hailey McDaniel, 9 points; Rylie Candella, 8 points; Alyrria Austin, 6 points and Ke’Naytra Kennedy, 5 points.
AES’s Christianna Lemoine pumped in a game-high 18 points to propel the Lady Gators.

Patriots trip Hornets
LEROY _ The North Vermilion Patriots outlasted the Franklin Hornets 65-52 in District 8-3A action here Friday at the NVHS Gym.
North Vermilion outscored Franklin by a 50-30 margin over the first three quarters. Franklin rallied behind a 22-15 fourth quarter flurry but it was too late as the NVHS held on for the 65-52 district win.
Kevin Ina led the Hornets in scoring with 14 points while John Boyd finished with 11 points. Other top scorers for FSHS included: Jousha Parker, 8; Justin Poledore, 7; Dwonyell Charles, 5; Jarius Boyd, 5; and Tra’antray James, 2.
Franklin will travel to play the Kaplan Pirates in District 8-3A action on Tuesday.

Lady Knights edge Hanson Lady Tigers
Lafayette Christian Academy’s Lady Knights collected a 48-34 District 7-1A win over the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers Friday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gym.
The Hanson Lady Tigers jumped outfront by a 10-5 score at the end of the first period. LCA outpointed HMS the rest of the way, including a 15-9 second quarter run for a 20-19 cushion. In the second half, LCA went on a 28-15 run en route to the 48-34 win.
Casey Fitzgerald and Sarah Sonnier poured in eight points apiece to lead the Hanson Lady Tigers.
Other top scorers for HMS were: Allyssa Young, 7; Baylee Young, 6, 10 rebounds, 4 blocks; Carli Pellerin, 3 and Sarah Daniel, 2.
Hanson will travel to play Central Catholic on Tuesday in District 7-1A action.

LCA Knights top HMS Tigers
The Lafayette Christian Academy Knights posted a 94-56 District 7-1A victory over the Hanson Memorial Tigers Friday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.
LCA built a 23-8 first quarter lead before padding its cushion with a 30-17 second quarter burst for a 53-25 bulge at the half. LCA went on a 41-31 second half run to ice away the 94-56 win.
Brennan Young led the Tigers in scoring with nine points followed by Robert Camors and Kyler Clements with seven points apiece.
Other top scorers for HMS were: Bo Barrilleaux, 6; Clint Young, 6; Brian Sonnier, 6; Schyler Fitch, 5; Josh Sanchez, 4; Britt Young, 4 and Brock Broussard, 2.
HMS will take to the road on Tuesday to face Central Catholic in District 7-1A action.
