HMS spring production

America’s love for fairytales has been reignited over the years thanks in part to television interpretations and the acclaimed film adaptation of the Stephen Sondheim musical Into the Woods.
Conceptualized by juniors Samantha Schexnayder and Isabella Mire, Hanson Memorial High School actors take to the stage again to present Selections from the Brothers Grimm, their dramatization of four classic fairytales by nineteenth century German linguists and authors Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.
Portraying the two famous Grimm brothers are sophomore Jacob Adams and junior Shane Segura who lead audiences on a journey through the much beloved tales Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood. Returning to the stage in the lead character roles of the Wolf and the Witch is junior Trace Presley. Junior Isabella Mire, the production’s lead actress, embodies fairy tale favorites Little Red Riding Hood and Cinderella. Rounding out the cast in a variety of lead and supporting roles are juniors Chris Ibert (Cinderella’s Prince) and Macy Trosclair (Evil Stepmother); freshman Allee Adams (Rapunzel’s Mother); eighth-graders Olivia St. Blanc (Rapunzel) and O’Brien Verdin (Hansel); seventh-graders Jamie Adams and Kinsey Marin (Evil Stepsisters).
The director and cast promise an evening of theatre that is at once magical and transcendent. From the fantastic (yes, the King’s son will climb Rapunzel’s hair) to the macabre and a host of emotions in between, Selections from the Brothers Grimm has something for everyone and is suitable for all ages and viewing audiences.
Directed by HMS Theatre Director Robin Shepherd, Selections from the Brothers Grimm runs Thursday and Friday, May 5-6, at 7p.m. and Sunday, May 8 (Mother’s Day) at 2 p.m.
Admission is $8 for students and $12 for adults. As a special Mother’s Day “thank you,” the first 50 mothers and grandmothers who attend the Sunday matinee will be honored with a special gift on behalf of the director, cast, and crew.
