Jeanerette man charged with attempted murder
Attempted second degree murder charges have been levied against a Jeanerette man by St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies.
Terrance L. Derouen, 22, of 10312 Old Jeanerette Road, Jeanerette, was arrested Wednesday at 7 p.m. on a warrant charging him with attempted second degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated criminal damage to property.
Shortly before 1 a.m., deputies responded to a complaint of gunfire in the Charenton area and a residence on Joe White Road damaged. Detectives also responded to the scene.
Investigators reportedly gathered evidence indicating that Derouen approached a mobile home with a handgun while screaming and cursing. He then allegedly fired several rounds in the direction of a female victim which struck and damaged the residence.
Derouen reportedly then used the weapon to strike the victim in the head. After the encounter, Derouen allegedly left the area and detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Derouen turned himself in at the Baldwin Police Department where sheriff’s deputies made the arrest. Derouen was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
