Jones details Franklin funds awarded in legislative session

State Rep. Sam Jones, (Dist. 51, D-Franklin) updated the Franklin City Council on the past legislative session.
Jones went over many of the successes seen in St. Mary Parish due to the efforts of the local delegation that have been previously reported.
The state has allocated funds for drainage work at the Millet Point Boat Landing, which is under way, Jones said.
Also, $40,000 has been allocated to Caffery Park improvements, Jones said, with another $120,000 possibly available in an upcoming state bond issue.
Jones said $20,000 was allocated for the Franklin Harvest Moon Festival, Bayou Teche Black Bear Festival and the Bayou Teche Wooden Boat Show. “Those are three separate events,” Jones said, “though the boat show runs at the same time as the Bear Festival. We also allocated $10,000 to the Tour du Teche paddle race.”
A $25,000 allocation will go to a new air conditioning system for the Teche Theater, Jones said.
Also Tuesday:
—Recreation co-director Chris Barrilleaux reported the lighting repairs and upgrades at Broussard-Harris Park have been completed.
—Police Chief Sabria McGuire recommended reducing the speed limit on Augustine Maze Street to 15 mph due to the narrowness of that street. The council approved.
—Resolutions were approved regulating canvassers, solicitors and peddlers; supporting an application for a grant application to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation and another for a grant from the state Decentralized Arts Program.
