JROTC prepares Fallen Warrior Memorial
Morgan City High School JROTC cadets spent their holiday weekend cleaning and preparing the Fallen Warriors Memorial in Morgan City for Memorial Day. From left are cadets Elicia Dorsey, Tyray Williams, Irving Montez and Draven Smith. Smith is planning to attend Army Basic Training as an 11B Infantryman this summer before his senior year in high school, and will attend Advanced Individual Training after his senior year, Fallen Warriors Memorial Co-Chairman Marc Distefano said. All cadets expressed interest in serving in the military at some capacity, Distefano said. The memorial was officially unveiled on Veterans Day 2014. People have purchased bricks to honor military veterans. Project organizers have installed some of the second round of bricks and we are working with the city to expand the Walk of Honor before Veterans Day, Distefano said. Organizers will accept brick requests through August in order to fill the expansion with engraved bricks honoring veterans, Distefano said. Order forms can be found on the website: www.fallenwarriorsmemorialmorgancity.com.
