Berwick ceremony
for Adopt-A-School
Berwick Elementary will conduct an Adopt-A-School ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
Berwick Elementary will be adopted by Spacewalk Fun Jumps, Mr. and Mrs. Duval Arthur, and Hanagriff’s Machine Shop.
All St. Mary Parsih School Board staff members are invited.

Planning exec will
speak to chamber
Jeff Fair, president of American Planning Corp., will be the speaker at the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce Business Luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Oct. 14 at The Petroleum Club of Morgan City, 500 Roderick St.

Forum set for
District 51 hopefuls
The St. Mary Chamber of Commerce will host a political debate at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 for candidates for state representative in District 51.
The debate will be at the Patterson Civic Center, 116 Cotton Road in Patterson.
Incumbent Joe Harrison, R-Gray, is facing opposition from Beryl Adams Amedee, a Republican member of the Terrebonne Parish Council, and Howard J. Castay Jr., a Morgan City Democrat.

Boustany praises
outgoing speaker
U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, says outgoing House Speaker John Boehner has served the nation and the Republican Party well.
In a statement, Boustany said: “The Speakership is no easy job. John Boehner served our country and our Conference with distinction and I am grateful for his contributions to the House and to the Republican Party. I wish John all the best in this next chapter of life.”

To kick off the I-49 Lafayette Connector project, the state Department of Transportation and Development will host a Public Launch Event at 3 p.m Oct. 6, at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center.
Following remarks by DOTD Secretary Sherri H. LeBas, Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel and others, an overview of the scope of activities planned for the next 18 months will be presented. Immediately following will be a public information meeting (also at Rosa Parks) from 4-7 p.m.
The public can attend this open-house format to learn more about the project and provide comments. The public comment period continues until Oct. 16.
