Local student in national skills contest

South Central Louisiana Technical College-Young Memorial Campus secondary students recently competed in the 2016 Louisiana SkillsUSA state competition. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. Two Young Memorial heating, ventilation and air conditioning students placed; Kobe Champine, right, won gold and Hunter Rhodes, left, won silver. Champine will now proceed to the national competition in Louisville, Ky. June 20-24. Over 6,000 competitors will compete hands-on in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields. Students work against the clock and each other, proving their expertise in occupations such as electronics, HVAC, welding, precision machining, medical assisting and culinary arts.
