LSU students use Center Theater as design class project

Students in Instructor John Campbell’s and Associate Professor Phillip Tebbutt’s Sophomore Studio and Junior Studio courses at the LSU School of Design visited Franklin Jan. 22.
The students will provide ideas for the Center Theater, which will eventually become the Mayci Breaux Memorial Amphitheater.
Judith Allain was instrumental in connecting the interior design students and the City of Franklin by recommending the site to the faculty members.
The students were welcomed at City Hall by Mayor Raymond Harris and Allain, and they were greeted by Community Development Director Arlana Shields.
Culture and Recreation Coordinator Emily Hidalgo presented information about the Center Theater and explained to the students the City of Franklin’s vision for the space, its connection to downtown and the Bayou Teche and how the space will be used.
After the informal information session, Hidalgo, Allain, the faculty and the students walked downtown to see the area that will be the focus of their design projects. The two classes are divided into four groups to work on the design.
Although the students are at different academic levels, each of the four groups contains sophomores and juniors. They will do research and develop a solution for the space.
The students’ projects are due April 22, and the groups will come to Franklin the following week to present their designs.
