Lt. Gov. to visit Morgan City Tuesday

Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser will visit Morgan City on Tuesday as part of a statewide expedition celebrating National Tourism Week, according to a news release.
Nungesser will hold a news conference from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau Welcome and Interpretative Center in Morgan City. Other speakers include Morgan City Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi and Cajun Coast Executive Director Carrie Stansbury.
The purpose of the trip is to promote Louisiana’s tourism industry and its record-setting economic impact on the state. In 2015, Louisiana attracted 28.9 million visitors, resulting in $11.5 billion in total visitor spending and $843 million in state tax revenue generated. The revenue generated through domestic and international visitors represents a more than 38-to-1 return on investment of state funding, the release said.
In 2014, the last year for which data is available, tourists in St. Mary Parish spent $165.09 million, generated $35.13 million in worker paychecks, created $4.74 million in state sales taxes and $2.80 million in local taxes and generated 1,740 jobs.
As a result of the taxes generated by tourists in 2014, each of the 20,183 households in St. Mary Parish paid $373.58 less in state and local taxes, the release said.
