Man 60, killed lying in U.S. 90

Staff Report
A 60-year-old Berwick man has died after being hit by a vehicle late Sunday night while the man lie in the roadway, according to a State Police Troop I news release.
Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a fatality crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. 90 westbound near Ricohoc, the news release said.
The crash claimed the life of Larry Finister, 60, of Berwick. When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they located Finister lying in the roadway, police said. Based on the evidence at the scene, troopers believe Finister was lying in the outside travel lane when he was run over, police said.
Evidence recovered at the scene lead troopers to believe the hit and run vehicle is a late model GMC truck or SUV. After striking Finister, the vehicle fled the scene. Finister was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office, police said.
Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor for Finister, police said. Routine toxicology samples were taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, the release stated.
