Mardi Gras alcohol rules set

Mardi Gras is Feb. 9, and the annual Franklin parade will roll as usual.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire said at Tuesday’s meeting of the city council that consumption of alcohol by lifting the city’s open container law applies only to the parade route.
The law is lifted from one hour before and one hour after the parade. It is only lifted in the immediate area of the parade itself, not beyond.
The route is considered ended at Third Street and Adams Street, McGuire said.
Mayor Raymond Harris Jr. also said the public should know that the city is in no manner in charge of the parade. Any decisions regarding routes or other matters are made by the sponsoring organization.
More information on the parade will be available soon.
