Marshal’s Office urges residents to pay debts

David J. McCoy, City Marshal for the Third Ward in Franklin has a message for those in the community that might have some outstanding business with the city of Franklin.
McCoy said he wants people who think they may have “delinquent business” to come forward and take care of outstanding warrants before he has to start serving them.
According to McCoy, his office recently hired a new judge and is back in the business of dealing with outstanding warrants but he said there is still time to settle warrants without having to resort to arrests.
“If anyone has, or thinks you have any delinquent business with Franklin City/ Third Ward Marshal’s Office, please contact us,” McCoy said. “Our office can explain the seriousness of taking care of warrants by your paying the fines and not getting arrested and remaining incarcerated until paid. My heartfelt goal is to help clear these matters up before they come to that point.”
McCoy said his office had been waiting on more personnel before they could start processing outstanding warrants and now that they have a new judge, his department will start the proceedings.
“Our office experienced a downward slope due to the workload,” McCoy said. “After many prayers and help from my employees, it’s a proven fact that we must do something to restore this office to its former status. This will allow us to maintain our service to the communities in a professional manner. Now to solve this problem, I must begin serving all the warrants the department holds. The Marshal’s Office will begin serving warrants and there will be no second chance if you haven’t taken care of debts owed to City Court.”
