Morgan City man to speak at Grand Cane history seminar

Roger Busbice of Morgan City will be one of three guest speakers at the second annual Jefferson Seminar at Central School in Grand Cane on Saturday.
The theme is “Frontier Louisiana: The Culture and History of Northwest Louisiana.”
Busbice is a retired teacher and education administrator for the St. Mary Parish School Board, a former archivist and historian for Louisiana’s Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge and the former director of legal services for the Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana.
At the seminar, Busbice will discuss the life and career of Leonidas Polk, the first bishop of Louisiana for the Episcopal Church and, later, a lieutenant general in the Confederate Army. Polk was killed at Pine Mountain, Ga., in 1864.
Also speaking at the conference will be David Middleton, a native of Shreveport and former professor of English at Nicholls State University; and Anne Bowie, a private school teacher who holds degrees in theological studies.
