Morgan City soldier earns promotion

U.S. Army Maj. James Kelly Jr., of Morgan City, was promoted May 24 from the rank of captain in Fort Irwin, California. Kelly received the Meritorious Service Medal and Order of St. Michael Award for his dedication to the soldiers and aviation branch of the Army during the past 10 years. In June, Kelly will travel to The Air University at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama to pursue his master’s degree in military operational art and science. Kelly is a 2001 Morgan City High School graduate and 2005 Southern University graduate. He is the son of James Kelly Sr. and Rosalie Kelly.
