Morgan City's Memorial Day Remembrance will be Monday
The fourth annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Morgan City's Cypress Park, 611 Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd. The St. Mary Chamber of Commerce and VFW Post 4222 of Morgan City are hosting the event.
A rosary for veterans will be said at 9:45 a.m. at the Fallen Warrior Memorial on the grounds of the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium followed by the program beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Speakers will be Sennet Wiggins II, an employee of the St. Mary Sheriff's Office and a former U.S. Marine corporal, along with Dr. Bruce T. Murphy, president of Nicholls State University and a retired for U.S. Army lieutenant colonel.
A ceremony of remembrance will occur and will include the placement of a memorial wreath at the memorial.
A barbecue picnic lunch will follow the ceremony.
Don and Mata Tellman will provide barbecue at a cost of $7. Proceeds from the meal will go toward helping veterans pay for their membership with the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization. Drinks will be sold by the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce and Sweets will be provided by Bonnie's Bouquets and Bakery.
