Officer in stable condition after surgery

As of Thursday afternoon, Morgan City police Sgt. Janada Anslum was still listed in stable condition at a hospital in New Orleans after being seriously injured Dec. 5 when she was hit by a pickup truck while in her police unit, police said.
Anslum had one surgery to repair several ribs, Morgan City police spokesman Capt. James Blair said. Anslum’s condition has not changed much since Monday, Blair said. Anslum had 16 broken ribs, two fractured vertebrae, a lung injury and a head laceration, Blair said.
On Dec. 5, Anslum was in her unit on U.S. 90, wearing her seatbelt and body armor vest, when her vehicle was struck from behind by Nunsie Jett, 48, of Morgan City, in his F250, Blair said. Jett was charged with driving while intoxicated, careless operation and negligent injuring.
Anslum was at the city limits attempting to slow traffic in the westbound lanes heading toward a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on the U.S. 90 bridge when her vehicle was struck.
She was extricated from her vehicle and taken by ambulance to PHI in Amelia where Acadian Ambulance AirMed transported her to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center. She later was taken by ground ambulance to New Orleans, Blair said.
People can donate blood in Anslum's name through United Blood Services, Blair said.
