One dead after hit and run

A Berwick man was killed Sunday night after being ran over by a hit and run driver, according to State Police Troop I.
Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a fatality at about 11:30 p.m. involving a pedestrian on U.S. 90 westbound near Ricohoc.
When emergency responders arrived on the scene, they located 60-year-old Larry Finister lying in the roadway. Based on the evidence at the scene, troopers believe Finister was lying in the outside travel lane when he was run over. Evidence recovered at the scene leads troopers to believe the hit and run vehicle is a late model GMC truck or SUV. After striking Finister, the vehicle fled the scene. Finister was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Mary Parish Coroner’s Office.
Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor for Finister. Routine toxicology samples were taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
