Patterson native promoted to colonel

Robert H. Carr, a native of Patterson and the son of Annie M. DeClouet and Henry Carr Jr., was promoted to colonel in the Army at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
Carr is a 1987 graduate of Patterson High School. Carr graduated from Southern University, Baton Rouge, as a distinguished military graduate in December 1991 with a bachelor of science in business management. Upon graduation, he received a commission in the Army Corps of Engineers. He also holds a master of science degree in human resource management from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
Carr is a combat engineer officer with a specialty in force management. He served three tours in the Pentagon in various force structure and force management roles, which included a combat tour in Iraq.
Carr is attending the Military National Defense University’s Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy. Upon graduation in June, he will receive a master’s degree in National Security and Resource Strategy and then report to Belgium for duty at NATO.
Carr has been married to the former Temaki Funchess for 22-years, a native of Prentiss, Miss. They have three daughters, Dominique, Danielle and Gabrielle.
When asked about his view on the military after serving over 22-years, he speaks with passion about the guidance of his late grandfather, Henry Carr Sr.
“My philosophy in life which also helps to guide me in my military career was influenced by my grandfather. He taught me at an early age to never compromise my integrity, to always seek to serve others first, and above all: maintain my spiritual balance, cherish my family, and love my country.”
