A Patterson police officer was cited for careless operation after his police vehicle struck three parked cars and caused damage to a Morgan City lounge, police said.
The officer was identified as Jaylan Grogan, 21.
At 7:38 p.m. Friday, Morgan City police responded to a wreck at Table 5 Lounge at Fifth and Freret streets. A Patterson police officer was escorting an ambulance from the Patter-son Police Department to Teche Regional Medical Center when he took a wrong exit, Morgan City Police Capt. Teddy Liner said.
The officer exited onto Fifth and Freret streets, left the roadway, lost control of his police unit and struck three parked vehicles, pushing a pickup truck into the lounge, Liner said. The wreck caused significant damage to the building, knocking a hole in a wall and breaking a water line, he said.
