The drivers of two vehicles sustained serious injuries Saturday night in a wreck on the Greenwood Overpass on La. 182 after the driver of a westbound pickup truck crossed into the eastbound lanes, hitting a car head-on, Morgan City Police spokesman Capt. James Blair said.
At 7:52 p.m. Saturday, Ronald Marcantel, 54, of Morgan City, was driving a 2002 Ford Ranger pulling a boat on the Greenwood Overpass on La. 182 when he crossed into the path of a 2012 Ford Taurus driven by Davida Bias, 31, of Morgan City, Blair said.
Marcantel was in critical condition at Teche Regional Medical Center as of Saturday night, Blair said. Bias also sustained serious yet non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Blair said.
As of this morning, Bias was in stable condition, Blair said. Police did not have an updated condition for Marcantel, Blair said.
Marcantel will be cited for reckless operation and open container violation, Blair said. Toxicology results on Marcantel are pending, Blair said. Bias will be cited for driving under suspension, Blair said. The roadway was reopened by 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Blair said.
