Police officers will be on hand at Mardi Gras parades
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s deputies will be assisting municipal police departments across the parish to secure the routes over the Mardi Gras weekend.
Sheriff Mark Hebert reminds everyone to always be aware of your surroundings. Pay attention to what is going on around you at all times. Be sure to keep a close eye on children.
The sheriff urges Mardi Gras revelers to immediately report anything that looks suspicious to law enforcement officers who will be stationed all along the routes. Call 911 in the event of an emergency.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire announced at last month’s city council meeting that the suspension of the open alcohol container law only applies to directly to the parade route when Franklin’s parade rolls.
Open alcohol containers on public streets or property beyond the immediate parade route are still prohibited.
