Police respond to Morgan City High School due to threatening note

The note, written on a 50-cent sized piece of paper, was found in a classroom in mid-September and turned over to an administrator, Principal Mickey Fabre said in late September.

Fabre and Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch said in September the note did not contain a “hit list” of any kind, as had been rumored on social media. Crouch reiterated the point, “There is no list of teachers, faculty or students. (The note) did not spell that out.”

Crouch said the investigation to identify the source of the note is ongoing.

“As a precaution, the Morgan City Police Department increased police presence inside the local schools and with the cooperation of school faculty began to conduct periodic safety checks and searches,” a press release said today.

Crouch said this morning that officers would be in the school every day until the note’s author is caught.

“If that takes until the end of the year, we will be there until then,” he said.

Crouch reported the following unrelated arrests:

—Junior Anthony Roy, 24, of Rayne, was arrested at 7:48 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to return lease merchandise, possession of Schedule II controlled dangerous substance-Methamphetamine, taking contraband into a penal institution, resisting an officer, battery on an officer and obstruction of justice.

Morgan City Police officers received an anonymous tip regarding illegal drug activity in the area of Orange Street.  Based on a description of the person involved, they located Roy on Orange Street. It was discovered that Roy was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

He was taken to the Morgan City Jail for booking. Once at the jail facility, a thorough search of Roy produced a small cellophane bag which contained suspected narcotics and he attempted to swallow the bag.  Officers subdued the subject and retrieved the item which contained suspected methamphetamine. During the encounter, Roy struck an officer, Crouch said. He was additionally charged. He remains in jail with no bail set.
