Post Office food drive is Saturday

Area residents can help feed people in need by simply leaving non-perishable food items by their mailboxes on Saturday for mail carriers to pick up and bring to St. Mary Outreach.
The National Association of Letter Carriers, in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, is holding their 23rd annual food drive on Saturday, according to a news release.
The Morgan City, Berwick, Patterson and Amelia post offices are all participating, and all food collected in the area will go to St. Mary Outreach, Morgan City Customer Services Supervisor Ricky Aucoin said.
People wanting to partici-pate in the drive can collect and bag non-perishable food items, and then place the bag by the mailbox for letter carriers to deliver to a local food bank or pantry, the release said.
St. Mary Outreach Execu-tive Director Brenda Liner said all non-perishable food collected in Amelia, Morgan City, Berwick, Bayou Vista and Patterson will benefit St. Mary Outreach.
The food drive sustains St. Mary Outreach’s food pantry through the summer months, Liner said.
“With children out of school, many will not get the well-balanced meals they are provided during the school year,” Liner said.
St. Mary Outreach is located at 608 First St. in Morgan City.
