Presidio Brass will open Community Concert season

The Presidio Brass, which combines a brass quintet, piano and percussion instruments in fresh arrangements, will open the Community Concert season Sept. 8.
The starting time for the concerts has been changed to 7 p.m. at the Schreier Theatre of the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. A Young Foundation grant helped keep ticket prices at $45 for adults and $10 for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
The Community Concert Association of Morgan City makes available Patron Plan subscriptions: Bronze Patron, with four tickets for $150; Silver Patron, with 10 tickets for $350; and Gold Patron, 20 tickets, $600 tickets.
The Presidio Brass will perform “Sounds of the Cinema” and conduct a student outreach at a local school, according to the band’s promotional material. “They came together with the primary mission to promote music education and music appreciation in young people and captivate audiences everywhere.”
Also on the schedule for the Community Concert 2015-16 season:
—Oct. 6, The Young Irelanders, an eight-member Irish music, song and dance troupe. Many members have toured as lead performers of “Riverdance” and “Lord of the Dance.” The group has performed for heads of state and with Bono and Sting.
—Feb. 25, “The Wonderful Wizard of Song,” honoring Harold Arlen, the most famous composer you never heard of. With a multitalented cast of three men and two women and backed by piano and bass, the off-Broadway production brings back many of his famous songs, including “That Old Black Magic,” “Stormy Weather,” “Somewhere over the Rainbow,” and more.
—April 19, Matt Dusk, a student of jazz legend Oscar Peterson. Dusk is a big band style crooner with a style reminiscent of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole and Chet Baker.
—May 19, “Savannah Jack,” composed of Don Gatlin on lead vocal, jay Darby on bass and Matt Thomas Schumacher on fiddle and guitar, has worked as an opening act for Kenny Rogers.
