Rhythms on the River off to strong start

Friday night began the annual Rhythms on the River on Front Street in downtown Morgan City. The event continues with music and dancing each Friday night until June 20. Déjà Vu was the opening act with Pierre Part native Don Rich scheduled for this week. He will return June 6 for a second performance. South 70, a seven-piece band all born in south Louisiana, will perform May 9. South 70 plays a mixture of Zydeco, swamp pop, Cajun, country and more. Jamie Bergeron will play Cajun/Zydeco music May 16. T K Hulin will take the stage May 23. Side Show Band will perform May 30 with a variety of classic rock, jitterbug, funk and Cajun and Zydeco. On June 13, Louisiana Soul Survivors, an eight-member band from the Houma-Thibodaux area will perform with a mixture of funk, pop and rock and soul. On June 20, Cajun musician Damon Troy, who plays seven instruments, will play traditional Cajun music with the addition of elements from Zydeco, R&B, rock n’ roll, country and Swamp Pop.
