Damon Robison’s announcement follows.
For the past eight years, the citizens of Berwick have entrusted me with one of their five council seats. I come to you again with the same request, to continue to contribute to the community that has been so good to me, and my family. I ask that you give my candidacy your serious consideration and return me to another term on the Berwick Town Council.
I am Damon Robison, a native and lifelong resident of Berwick. A 1972 graduate of Berwick High School, I also attended LSU in Baton Rouge, Nicholls State University in Thibodaux and hold a bachelor of science degree from Regents College of USNY.
Prior to being seated on the council, I served the community as an assistant T-Ball coach, president of the BHS Band Booster, and recently on the board of directors of the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce. In 1994, I was honored as the ABWA Business Associate of the Year, and in 2006 as the St. Mary Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.
I am also a member of the Morgan City Rotary Club where I am a Paul Harris Fellow. From 1996 until 2006, I served as chairman of the Berwick Development District. I’ve been and remain a participant in and supporter of numerous other civic, educational, and community activities.
I am married to the former Phyllis Carter of Morgan City. We have two children and two grandchildren. I am employed by L-H Printing, where I oversee the activities of our printing and graphics department. My parents are Nelwyn and the late Lige Robison, to whom I owe my interest in government and public service.
While on the council, I’ve served on the Finance and Economic Development committees. I’ve also been assigned to several other provisional committees to address other emerging issues.
During my tenure we’ve experienced systematic improvement to our governments’ capabilities to serve its citizens. Many of these improvements go unnoticed by the public and are too numerous to detail here, but are still crucial for our continued success as a community.
Of recent significance, the town was approved for $350,000 in the 2013 state capital outlay budget for the planning and construction of a sewerage collection system along Old Spanish Trail and La. 182. Just this year, we were again approved for $1,350,000 for the construction of this project. We expect that by the end of this year to have a major industrial expansion that will be served by this project. This international corporation is expected to bring long term, quality jobs to our area. Many of those who find jobs with the company will likely settle with their families in Berwick. A recently announced single family residential subdivision along with this industrial development bode well for the long term prosperity in Berwick.
There will always be room for improvement to our government and I pledge to continue to serve as a representative of all the citizens of Berwick. I remain committed to keeping Berwick a great place to raise your family and a community you can be proud to call home.
It has been an honor and privilege to serve as one of your representatives on the Berwick Town Council. In the next few weeks I plan to contact as many of my fellow residents as possible, and I look forward to discussing my performance on the council with you. Your vote does matter and on Nov. 4 you can vote for five of the candidates for council. I respectfully ask that you include me, Damon Robison, as one of your choices for the Berwick Town Council.
