Sheriff: Deputy will recover after patrol car overturns

A St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy is expected to make a full recovery after his vehicle overturned Sunday on U.S. 90 just east of Morgan City, Sheriff’s Office Spokeswoman Traci Landry said. State police are investigating the crash.
The deputy crashed his unit at 2:06 p.m. Sunday and was flown to the hospital by AirMed. The deputy was later released, and should make a full recovery, Landry said.
The Sheriff’s Office will not release the name of the deputy involved, Landry said.
State police are investigating the deputy-involved crash, which is “standard procedure,” Landry said.
As of about 8:30 a.m. today, State Police Troop I Spokesman Brooks David said there was no information available yet regarding what happened in the deputy-involved crash.
The Sheriff’s Office also worked a single-vehicle crash at 2:02 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista, Landry said. The vehicle was removed by a wrecker service.
Acadian Ambulance responded to the scene, but Landry didn’t have information yet on whether anyone was transported to the hospital.
The eastbound lanes of U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista were closed for about 30 minutes while emergency responders cleared the scene, Landry said.
