Sheriff investigating alleged shooting

St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s investigators are looking into an alleged shooting in Verdunville Thursday.
Sheriff Mark Hebert said a 7:30 p.m. call regarding gunfire on Verdun Lane sent officers heading for the scene.
While en route, a deputy observed a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The deputy and Louisiana State Police, who were also responding to the call, followed the vehicle.
The vehicle was stopped at the St. Mary Parish Courthouse in Franklin. Deputies located a male passenger in the vehicle who was reportedly injured by an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and remains in stable condition this morning.
The shooting is under investigation by the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.
