Single-vehicle wreck kills Amelia woman

Staff Report

A 62-year-old Amelia woman was killed after her vehicle ran into a mobile home Thursday afternoon on Lakeview Drive, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
For reasons still under investigation at this time, Irmanese “Irma” G. Williams, 62, of Amelia, failed to negotiate the curve onto Lakeview Drive just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, left the roadway and traveled through a yard before crashing into a mobile home, Hebert said.
Williams and a 13-year-old male passenger had been traveling north on Duhon Boulevard in a silver 2008 GMC Envoy.
Both occupants were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Hebert said. The juvenile and Williams were extricated from the vehicle by area fire department personnel. The juvenile was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center via Acadian Air Med Services where he was treated and released. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Mary Parish coroner, Hebert said.
The cause of death is unknown at this time and is pending an autopsy. Alcohol/drugs are not suspected to be factor in the crash. A routine toxicology report is pending.
Although residents were inside the home at the time of the crash, no one in the mobile home was struck or injured, Hebert said. The crash remains under investigation.
