Skate park construction under way

Work began Monday on the cementing of the foundation for a skate park behind Cypress Park, Mayor Frank “Boo” Grizzaffi said.
Nine skate park apparatuses are going to be installed at the site beginning July 14, he said. Grizzaffi expects construction to be complete by July 26, he said.
The parish is funding the skate park, Grizzaffi said. The park will be a skateboard-only facility and will be open all the time, he said. The equipment cost roughly $16,000, he said.
The city received $10,000 from the parish council last week to construct a 360-degree typhoon slide at Lawrence Park and to do cement work at the skate park. The slide in Lawrence Park had gotten cracked so the council awarded the city money to replace the slide and to pay for the cementing of the slab at the skate park, he said.
Parish councilmen Kevin Voisin, Tim Tregle and Logan Fromenthal helped secure the funding, the mayor said.
An opening date has not yet been set for the skate park, the mayor said.
