Slight chance of rain, sleet Friday

While there is a chance for rain and sleet Friday, it is unlikely St. Mary Parish will experience weather that will cause road closures, forecasters say.
Superintendent Donald Aguillard said this morning that school will go on as planned.
Jim Sweeney, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service Lake Charles, said to expect a high of 40 and a low of 32 today.
Chances of rain and sleet increase during the day with a 30 percent Friday morning and 40 percent Friday afternoon.
“It should be above freezing by the time the rain starts. The question is whether there will be any sleet with that,” Sweeney said.
A layer of warmer air should build in the atmosphere above Morgan City shielding it from sleet, Sweeney said.
Sweeney said overnight temperatures dropped to a low of 27 at Patterson’s reporting station.
Meanwhile, Office of Emergency Preparedness Director Duval Arthur said there were no reports of problems overnight.
Arthur said his office is monitoring the weather forecast for Friday, but “right now I think we’re going to be OK,” he said.
