St. Mary 4-H’ers attend Regional Area Cookery Contest

Several 4-H’ers from St. Mary Parish attended the Regional Area Commodity Cookery Contest in Houma on April 23.
Participating were St. Mary 4-H’ers that took first place in the parish contest held in November. Contestants brought their dishes and displayed them in the correspondent category to be judged.
St. Mary Parish 4-Hers placing and their categories are:
—Nicholas Bergeron (St. Mary Community Club): first place blue ribbon, Egg Appetizer/Salad.
—Abbagale Harvey (Lagrange Elementary): third place blue ribbon, Egg Main Dish.
—Mollie Plessala (Bayou Vista Elementary): fourth place red ribbon, Beef Low-Calorie.
—Rosemarie Colley (Hanson Memorial High School): second place blue ribbon, Beef One Dish Meal.
—Lester Vital (Glencoe Charter): second place blue ribbon, Beef Quick and Easy.
—Scott Price (Berwick Junior High): third place blue ribbon, Poultry/Chicken.
—Victoria LeBlanc (West St. Mary High School): second place blue ribbon, Poultry/Processed Poultry Product.
—Layla Nelson (Bayou Vista): second place blue ribbon, Seafood/Shrimp.
—Ashton Landry (Centerville High School): first place blue ribbon, Seafood/Fish and Other.
—Brasen Lantier (Community Club): third place blue ribbon, Seafood/Crawfish.
—Abigail Ecuer (St. John Elementary): third place blue ribbon, Sugar/Cakes.
—Olivia Vidrine (Hattie Watts Elementary): first place blue ribbon, Sugar/Candy.
—Gabriel Gilder (Bayou Vista): third place blue ribbon, Sugar/Cookies.
—Kaleb Thibodeaux (Raintree Elementary): red ribbon, Rice/Main Dish.
—Jacob Rogers (Glencoe Charter): first place blue ribbon, Rice/Side Dish.
While judges were busy tasting the food, 4-H members attended educational workshops led by a United Healthcare representative, and Ashton Landry from St. Mary Parish 4-H and the Louisiana 4-H Food and Fitness Board.
As part of the Louisiana 4-H program to help stop bullying, Area Commodity Cookery participants were asked to wear blue to show support for the campaign.
Participants were also asked to donate at least one item for The Haven, a battered women’s shelter, as part of an anti-bullying community service project for the region. The Haven mission is to empower survivors of family violence to live safe, independent and violence free lives. The Haven provides services to Terrebonne, Lafourche, Assumption and St. Mary.
St. Mary Parish 4-H officials expressed congratulations to all its participants.
