St. Mary Parish sales tax revenues jump 15.7% in April

April’s 4 percent St. Mary Parish sales and use tax collections totaled $4.23 million, up 15.7 percent compared to April 2013, St. Mary Parish Sales and Use Tax Director Jeffrey LaGrange said.
The April 2013 sales tax total was about $3.88 million. “Collections continue on an upward track at a brisk pace,” LaGrange said in an email. “We are experiencing great increases in collections from industry while retail sales are showing only slight increases in comparison.”
The parish’s 4 percent hotel-motel tax brought in $59,240 for the first month of the second quarter, a 1 percent increase over the April 2013 collection of $58,392.
Four audit examinations yielded $381,886 in April in the parish, LaGrange said.
Morgan City’s 0.3 percent sales tax for roads accumulated $83,910 in April, which was up 17.3 percent compared to March.
Morgan City’s regular 0.3 percent sales tax yielded $84,024 for April. The 0.3 percent sales tax for Wards 5 and 8 was $89,744.71. The 0.3 percent tax for Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 10 was $92,612.41. The 0.3 percent tax for Wards 6 and 9 was $40,638.
The April collection for occupational licenses was $36,199 for the parish, $18,296 for Morgan City; $11,221 for Berwick; and $2,946 for Patterson.
