St. Mary Parish School Board to meet Thursday

The St. Mary Parish School Board and one of its committees will meet Thursday in three back-to-back meetings.
Beginning at 3:30 p.m., the District III (Morgan City area) Maintenance Committee will meet to receive final quotes on library furniture for the Morgan City High School library project.
Following at 4 p.m., the board meets to conduct a group health insurance workshop during which they will receive the health plan renewal quote and an update on requests for proposals. They also will review a report from Blue Cross regarding monthly paid claims computation.
Finally, at 5 p.m., the board meets for its regular monthly meeting.
All three meetings will be held at the Central Office Complex in Centerville and are open to the public.
Among business on the crowded agenda is the authorization to bid for $21 million in bonds for the Fifth Ward Special School District No. 1. Voters approved the bonds with a 15-mill property tax during the Oct. 19 election.
Residents from the Calumet Cut to Southwest Boulevard in Bayou Vista supported the tax to replace Patterson Junior High School and construct a new multi-purpose building at Hattie Watts Elementary.
Four separate disciplinary cases also are on the agenda under personnel matters.
The board will consider action on its group health plan renewal during the meeting.
Also, the board is expected to authorize its superintendent to act on behalf of the board in the sale of the former Crowell Gym property to the City of Franklin. Meanwhile, the sale of the Crowell Cafeteria-Senior Center building will be to the highest bidder over the $51,600 appraisal.
All three meetings will be held at the Central Office Complex in Centerville and are open to the public.
