Summer arts, dance wraps; Art Walk slated in August
Franklin’s Bayou Beaux Art and Dance Summer Arts Program will have its dance recital and student art show July 26 at Broussard-Harris Recreation Center .
Admission is $5 per person at the door.
The doors open at 5 p.m. to allow attendees to view the works created by the particpants in the art portion of the program. The students participated in drawing, acrylics and encaustics classes taught by Jon Eenigenburg, Laura Zuniga and Catherine Siracusa, respectively.
At 6 p.m., the dance performance will begin. The dance recital will feature music and dance numbers that will take the audience on a trip around the world. LaDaisha Bowles is the instructor.
The Bayou Beaux Art and Dance Summer Art Program is funded by a Community Partnership Grant from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation, Inc.
Also on the calendar, the fifth annual Promenade d’art de Franklin is a family-friendly event that will take place Aug. 23 on Main Street from 3-6 p.m. and is open to local and regional visual artists and published authors.
At this time, the list of venues includes Four Seasons, Meyer’s Shoe Store, Fad’s Newsstand, Floors Etc., Chic and Shabby Collections, Main St. Café, Todd Art Gallery, Chez Hope, Argus Spa, Scelfo’s Insurance, Beleeza Boutique and Shadowlawn. Shadowlawn is the official beginning of the Art Walk.
Entry brochures are available from Main Street merchants and at City Hall. There is no entrance fee to participate in the Art Walk. Only original art and literature will be accepted and can be displayed at the Franklin Art Walk. The last day to enter is Friday, July 25 at noon.
The types of art that are accepted are drawing, basketry, painting, pottery, recycled art, quilts, handmade accessories, mixed media, photography, sculpture, fiber arts and published literature.
