Techeland Arts Council sets story-gathering session Feb. 27

Young and old are invited to attend a Story-Gathering Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Bayou Vista Community Center
Set for 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and sponsored by Techeland Arts Council (TAC), participation in the workshop is free and TAC will provide lunch.
Participants are asked to register by calling 985-212-2112 or 985-312-4358. However everyone will be welcomed at the door.
The workshop is part of our continuing effort to gather the oral history of the local community. TAC follows the mantra that everyone has a story to tell, and the group wishes to document these stories.
Karen Kimbrell and Charlotte Phillips, from “Swamp Gravy,” Georgia’s Official Folk Life Play, based in Colquitt, Georgia, will be conducting the workshop.
Kimbrell and Phillips will speak on how stories in their community are gathered and turned into a folk life play. The participants at the workshop will be asked to share their stories. Some of the stories told will be used in a live presentation after the workshop at 6 p.m.
Techeland Arts Council’s “No Hitchin’” has presented four productions in the last four years based on previously gathered stories: “What a Ride;” “Bayou Storm Rising,” “Bayou Belles;” and “Last Bayou Passage.”
The next production will be held at the Morgan City Civic Center on April 8, 9, and 10.
