A red-shouldered hawk feeds on a pigeon Tuesday afternoon in Morgan City under the U.S. 90 bridge. Red- shouldered hawks are most commonly recognized for their red and brown shoulders and their tail with dark, thick, white bands. According to www.birdsoflouisiana.org, the species is a resident of the eastern woodlands from southern Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico and prefers mixed woodlands near water.
