Battery charge for Morgan City woman
A 48-year-old Morgan City woman was arrested for allegedly striking a man, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Ronda K. Baines, 48, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:27 p.m. Friday on the charge of simple battery.
Officers responded to a residence on Egle Street in regard to a battery that had been committed on an individual. Officers arrived and spoke to the victim.
According to reports, the victim stated that Baines started a verbal altercation which led to her striking him. Reports indicate that witnesses also claim that Baines struck the victim.
Officers located Baines at the residence, placed her under arrest and transported her to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Kayla B. Hurry, 21, of Pierre Part, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Friday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
— Michael P. Field, 53, of Pierre Part, was arrested at 4:30 p.m. Friday on a charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers responded to a residence on Roderick Street in regard to a disturbance. When officers arrived they located Hurry and Fields. Both stated that they had gotten into a verbal altercation.
Officers located inside of Hurry’s purse items used to smoke illegal narcotics. They also located items to smoke illegal narcotics on Field’s person.
Both Hurry and Field were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and jailed.
—Rebecca J. Demarco, 44, of North Verret Street in Amelia, was arrested at 1 p.m. Friday on charges of theft (over $750), resisting an officer, and battery on an officer.
Officers responded to a residence on La. 182 in regard to a theft. Officers arrived and, according to reports, the victim stated that Demarco had stolen items from his residence.
A description of Demarco was given and she was located on Eleventh Street. When officers approached Demarco, she appeared intoxicated. Reports indicated that Demarco admitted to taking the items.
While placing Demarco under arrest, she began to pull away from officers. Demarco was handcuffed and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking.
Once at the police department, Demarco struck an officer. She was additionally charged with battery on an officer.
—Kenneth L. Dupuy, 51, of Morgan City, was arrested at 10:57 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear (Iberville Parish).
Dupuy was located on Myrtle Street. A warrant check was done and it was determined that he held an active warrant for Iberville Parish.
Dupuy was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking and jailed.
—Rodney R. Williams, 37, of Claire Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 10 a.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear for arraignment.
Williams was transported to the Morgan City Police Department by the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office for an active warrant he held for the Sixth Ward City Court. Williams was booked and jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 121 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Tommy L. Harding Jr., 27, of the 100 block of Friendship Alley in Amelia, was arrested at 12:18 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of speeding and reckless operation of a vehicle.
Harding turned himself in to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin. He was released on recognizance bail.
—Roosevelt Robertson, 62, of the 200 block of Ridgeway Street in Thibodaux, was arrested at 2:02 p.m. Friday for proper equipment required, improper lane usage, and driver must be licensed.
—Florence Alvis, 54, of the 200 block of Ridgeway Street in Thibodaux, was arrested at 2:04 p.m. Friday for possession of marijuana.
A deputy patrolling Calumet observed a vehicle driving in the left lane on La. 182 with an unlit tail light and conducted a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the driver, Robertson, and a passenger, identified as Alvis.
During the traffic stop investigation, the deputy located a small bag of marijuana on Alvis’ person. In addition, partially consumed burnt marijuana cigarettes and cigars were in Alvis’ purse and in the vehicle.
The deputy also discovered that Robertson was driving the vehicle without a license. Alvis was released on a summons to appear in court July 25.
Robertson was transported to the parish jail for booking and later released on a summons to appear in court July 25.
— Courtnie L. Chenevert, 33, of the 2200 block of Keith Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:23 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of operating a vehicle with a suspended license, speeding, and no seatbelt.
A correctional officer transported Chenevert from Assumption Parish to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center on the warrant. Chenevert was released on a $6,000 recognizance bail.
— Paulino Lopez-Garcia, 31, of the 600 block of Sixth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:19 a.m. Saturday on the charges of reckless operation of a vehicle, driver must be licensed, and possession of (open) alcoholic beverages in motor vehicle.
In addition, he had a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of flight from an officer, speeding, expired motor vehicle inspection, and operating a vehicle without a driver’s license.
A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a car parked, partially blocking the entrance to a business on La. 182. As the deputy approached, the vehicle pulled away then re-entered the parking lot, striking a curb.
The deputy made contact with the driver of the vehicle, Lopez-Garcia, and observed an open bottle of beer inside the car.
The deputy also discovered that Lopez-Garcia was operating the vehicle without a license and had an active warrant for his arrest. Lopez-Garcia was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Henry J. Caballero-Melendez, 24, of Odile Street in Amelia, was arrested at 2:31 a.m. Saturday on the charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, driver must be licensed, and lighted lamps required.
A deputy patrolling Amelia observed a vehicle traveling on La. 182 without any headlights on. The deputy made contact with the driver, Caballero-Melendez, and learned that he was operating the vehicle without a license.
While speaking with Caballero-Melendez, the deputy smelled a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and person. The deputy administered a field sobriety test. Caballero-Melendez conducted the test poorly.
He later registered a 0.167 grams percent blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. Caballero-Melendez was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Corey Mire, 28, of the 100 block of Southwest Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:22 a.m. Saturday on the charges of condition of windshield, driving under suspension, no motor vehicle insurance, and possession of Legend drug without a prescription.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed a vehicle with multiple cracks in the windshield on the driver’s side and conducted a traffic stop.
While speaking with the driver, Mire, the deputy found that he was operating the vehicle with a driver’s license that is listed as suspended and did not have insurance.
During the course of the traffic stop investigation, the deputy also located a prescribed pill for which Mire did not have a prescription. Mire was transported to the parish jail for booking. No bail is set.
—Tayler Davis, 17, of the 1600 block of Cross Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 1 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for criminal damage to property.
A deputy patrolling Bayou Vista observed Davis walking in a parking lot off of Southeast Boulevard. The deputy knew Davis had an active warrant for his arrest and took him into custody.
The warrant was issued following an investigation into a complaint of property damage at the Swamp Skate Park.
A deputy observed video surveillance footage of Davis sitting on a water fountain causing the fountain to break and fall to the ground.
Davis was transported to the parish jail for booking and released on a summons to appear in court July 25.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Randall Myers, 44, of Home Lane Court in Berwick, was arrested at 11:15 p.m. Friday on the charge of possession of marijuana and on a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for failure to comply with terms of probation.
Myers posted $3,000 bail.
—Blaine Carline, 27, of Tournament Boulevard in Berwick, was arrested at 3:45 p.m. Sunday on the charges of two counts of hit and run driving. Carline posted $2,000 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Fermin Diaz Magana, 47, of the 100 block of West Syls Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. Sunday on the charges of DWI first offense, no driver’s license and driving left of center. No bail is set.
