Fight sends three local men to city jail

Three Morgan City men were arrested today for fighting in a place of business, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said.

— Pereyra Lopez, 40, of Florence Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:43 a.m. today on a charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.

—Salvador G. Viniegra, 32, of U.S. 90 in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:43 a.m. today on a charge of disturbing the peace by fighting.

—Alvaro Escobar-Calix, 27, of Florence Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:43 a.m. today on the charges of disturbing the peace by fighting and resisting an officer.

Officers responded to a local business on La. 182 in regard to a report of a fight involving several subjects. Officers arrived and observed multiple subjects fighting at the business, Blair said.

Lopez, Viniegra and Escobar-Calix were identified as the three subjects involved in the encounter. The three subjects were separated by officers and placed under arrest when Escobar-Calix began fighting with officers, Blair said.

After a short struggle, Escobar-Calix was restrained by officers. Lopez, Viniegra and Escobar-Calix were transported to the Morgan City Police Department where they were booked and jailed.

Blair reported the following arrests:

— Gabrieo C. Boulanger, 26, of Sixth Street in Patterson, was arrested at 9:38 p.m. Saturday on the charges of improper lane usage, driving under suspension, and no vehicle insurance.

A patrolling officer observed a vehicle crossing the fog line on U.S. 90 several times. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver identified as Boulanger. A driver’s license check revealed that Boulanger had a suspended license and that the vehicle did not have proof of insurance. Boulanger was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.

—Alyssa Ashmore, 26, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:39 p.m. Saturday on the charges of disturbing the peace intoxicated, simple battery, and possession of diazepam.

Officers responded to a local business in regard to an intoxicated female causing a disturbance. The officers arrived and were told by management and witnesses that Ashmore was inside the business causing a disturbance, being irate and struck one of the patrons.

The officers made contact with Ashmore, who was believed to have been drinking and appeared to be intoxicated.

Ashmore was transported to the Morgan City Police Department for booking. While booking, suspected diazepam was located on her. She was jailed.

— Calvillo S. Garcia, 22, of Louisa Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:39 a.m. Sunday on the charges of driving while intoxicated, no driver’s license, and careless operation of a motor vehicle.

An officer responded to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Levee Road and Sixth Street. During the investigation, the driver of one of the vehicles involved was identified as Garcia. According to reports, Garcia did not have a valid driver’s license.

Garcia was believed to have been drinking and appeared intoxicated. Garcia was transported to the Morgan City Police Department and submitted to the Intoxilyzer 5000 test, yielding a blood alcohol concentration of 0.168 grams percent. Garcia was jailed.

— Jovon E. Johnson, 22, of Lafayette, was arrested at 5:25 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear for possession of marijuana and charges for possession of marijuana and obstruction of justice.

Johnson was located on Railroad Avenue near Fourth Street where he was arrested on an active warrant held by the 16th Judicial District Court. Johnson was transported to the Morgan City Police Department Jail for booking where Johnson attempted to place suspected marijuana inside his mouth, Blair said. Officers retrieved the suspected marijuana and Johnson was jailed.

—Bennie A. Charles, 31, of North Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:44 p.m. Sunday on the charges of driving under suspension, no seatbelt, and warrants for failure to appear to pay probation fee and probation violation.

A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling on Veterans Boulevard and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was identified as Charles. A warrants and driver’s license check was conducted, which revealed that Charles had a suspended license and that the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court held an active warrant for him. Charles was jailed.

—Darren W. Watson, 51, of Lloyd Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:58 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear for speeding. Watson was located on Amber Street where he was arrested on an active warrant held by the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court. Watson was jailed.

— Nakeisa Walker, 36, of Domino Street in Patterson, was arrested at 3:04 p.m. Tuesday on warrants charging her with failure to appear for probation fee, probation violation and failure to appear for contempt of court.

Walker was turned over to the Morgan City Police Department by a local bail bond service in regard to active arrest warrants held by the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court. Walker was jailed.

—Devante D. Frank, 23, of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday for failure to appear on the charge of simple battery and failure to appear for criminal damage to property.

Officers located Frank at an address on Bush Street where she was arrested on active arrest warrants held by the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court. Frank was jailed.

—Ciara V. Williams, 27, of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:59 p.m. Wednesday on two warrants for failure to appear for contempt of court, failure to appear for resisting an officer, failure to appear for driving under suspension, probation violation and a 16th Judicial District Court warrant for failure to appear on the charge of resisting an officer.

Williams was turned over to the Morgan City Police Department by a bail bond service in regard to active arrest warrants held by the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court and 16th Judicial District Court. Williams was jailed.

—Annabel M. Garza, 21, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana second offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A patrolling officer observed a vehicle on Ditch Avenue with improper tail lighting and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Garza, whose behavior made officers suspicious that she may be involved in illegal drug activity.

A search of the vehicle was conducted and suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia was located. Garza was jailed.

—Tressa Z. Womack, 33, of Egle Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:40 a.m. Thursday on a warrant for criminal damage to property, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law and illegal use of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of people under 17 years old.

Narcotics detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Egle Street. Investigators located Womack and a child less than 2 years old inside the home. A search of the residence was conducted and investigators located suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The location of the incident was within a local federal housing area in violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws. Womack was jailed.

—Derrick J. Cormier, 25, of Hue Street in Patterson, was arrested at 11:37 a.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of synthetic marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law, and careless operation of a motor vehicle.

—Jared D. Hope, 25, of Weeks Island Road in New Iberia, was arrested at 11:37 a.m. Thursday on the charges of possession of synthetic marijuana (fourth offense), obstruction of justice, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws, and warrants for probation violation and failure to appear (23rd Judicial District Court).

Officers responded to the area of La. 182 in regard to a report of a vehicle driving reckless. Officers located the vehicle on La. 182 near 11th Street and a traffic stop was conducted.

The driver was identified as Cormier and Hope as the passenger. During the investigation, Cormier and Hope’s behavior aroused officer’s suspicions that they may be involved in illegal drug activity.

Hope was observed to have something inside his mouth. Officers believed he was attempting to hide or discard illegal contraband.

Officers then retrieved what was believed to be suspected synthetic marijuana from Hope’s mouth. A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers located suspected synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The location of the incident was within the area of a local church in violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance laws.

A warrants check revealed there were active arrest warrants for Hope through the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court and the 23rd Judicial District Court.

Hope and Cormier were placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where they were booked and jailed.

—Frederick J. Mosley, 42, of Bernard Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:09 p.m. Thursday on warrants for two thefts over $750 (felony), simple criminal damage to property (felony), and theft of a motor vehicle.

Mosley was transported from the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office Jail to the Morgan City Police Department in regard to active arrest warrants held by Morgan City Police. Mosley was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.

—Devante D. Frank, 23, of Aucoin Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2 p.m. Thursday on warrants for contempt of court, probation violation and revoke of suspended sentence.

Frank was arrested in the Sixth Ward Morgan City Court for active arrest warrants. Frank was booked into the Morgan City Jail and incarcerated.

—Marilyn Hatch, 36, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:40 p.m. Thursday on the charge of theft by shoplifting.

An officer responded to a local store on La. 182 regarding a shoplifter.

The officer arrived and spoke with management who observed Hatch inside the store placing items from a shelf into her purse.

Hatch was confronted by management when the items observed taken were retrieved. Hatch was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and jailed.

—Leeann N. LeBlanc, 29, of Houma, was arrested at 4 p.m. Thursday on warrants for failure to appear for driving under suspension and speeding (16th Judicial District Court) and failure to appear for traffic citation (32nd Judicial District Court).

LeBlanc was located by an officer on Fifth Street near Michigan Street where she was arrested on active warrants held by the 16th Judicial District Court and 32nd Judicial District Court.

LeBlanc was transported to the Morgan City Police Department Jail where she was booked and incarcerated.

—Jeffery D. Fields, 49, of Patton Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:39 p.m. Thursday on charges for improper turning and driving under suspension.

A patrolling officer observed a vehicle make an improper turn on La. 182 at Pecos Street. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver identified as Fields.

A driver’s license check revealed that Fields had a suspended license. Fields was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and jailed.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:

—Brittany Chapman, 29, of the 100 block of Mars Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:22 a.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace.

—Juanita Derouen , 49, of the 100 block of Mars Road in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 11:22 a.m. Thursday on the charge of disturbing the peace.

A deputy responded to a complaint of a disturbance at the above listed address. While speaking with the subjects involved, the deputy learned that Chapman and Derouen were yelling at each other during an argument causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. Both were booked into the parish jail and released on summonses to appear in court May 4.

—Robert Jones, 24, of the 1000 block of Oakdale Street in Franklin, was arrested at 12:57 p.m. Thursday on the charges of violation of the stop signs and yield signs law and driving under suspension. A deputy observed a vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign on the corner of Southeast Boulevard and Delmar Avenue in Bayou Vista and conducted a traffic stop.

The deputy spoke with the driver, Jones, and discovered that he was operating the vehicle with a suspended license. Following the stop, the deputy released Jones on a summons to appear in court May 4.

—Archie Jones, 20, of the 17600 block of Wayforest Drive in Houston, was arrested at 2:26 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of illegal possession of stolen things. A deputy made contact with Jones in Centerville and located the active warrant for his arrest. Jones was booked into the parish jail and released on $5,000 bail.

—Brandon Hill, 33, of the 100 block of Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 10:47 a.m. Thursday on a warrant charging him with possession of a Schedule III controlled dangerous substance (Suboxone).

In November 2015, detectives of the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division executed a search warrant at a business in Patterson due to suspected illegal narcotics activity. During the search, detectives located a Suboxone strip on Hill, who was released pending further investigation.

Based on statements and other evidence collected, investigators obtained a warrant for Hill’s arrest. A narcotics detective located Hill at the parish courthouse. Hill was jailed with bail set at $1,000.

—Ashley Lanclos, 24, of the 1000 block of Third Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:38 p.m. Thursday on a warrant for possession of marijuana. A narcotics detective made contact with Lanclos at the Morgan City Police Station. Lanclos was released on a summons to appear in court May 4.

—Terrell Poole, 25, of the 1000 block of Ramos Street in Siracusaville, was arrested at 5:31 p.m. Thursday on the charge of possession of marijuana. Narcotics detectives patrolling Morgan City observed several subjects sitting inside a vehicle that was parked in the roadway on Birch Street.

As detectives passed the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Poole, nodded towards detectives and opened up his door to speak with them. When detectives made contact with the subject, they smelled the strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle, Hebert said.

Detectives detained Poole and other occupants in the vehicle pending further investigation. Detectives located a marijuana cigarette and a bag of marijuana in Poole’s pocket, Hebert said. Detectives released Poole on a summons to appear in court May 4.

—Kody G. Boutte, 32, of the 3100 block of College Road in Jeanerette, was arrested at 6:03 p.m. Thursday on the charge of following too closely and possession of marijuana. Narcotics detectives patrolling U.S. 90 in the Patterson and Calumet area observed a vehicle following too closely to another vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

When detectives made contact with the driver, Boutte, he admitted that he had marijuana inside the vehicle, Hebert said. Boutte was released on a summons to appear in court May 4.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:

—Walter Howard, 29, of the 500 block of Williams Street in Patterson, was arrested at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of simple burglary and criminal damage to property. Howard was jailed with no bail set yet.

—Jordan Gant, 26, of the 400 block of Railroad Avenue in Patterson, was arrested at 5:07 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with simple battery involving domestic abuse. Gant was released on $1,000 bail.

—Hubert H. Wallace, 67, of the 700 block of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:28 a.m. Thursday on the charge of DWI third offense. Wallace was jailed with no bail set.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
