Patterson man charged with failure to register
A 36-year-old Patterson man, already incarcerated, was charged on warrants for failure to register as a sex offender, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Charles L. Merritt, 36, of the 400 block of Williams Street in Patterson, was additionally charged on two warrants for failure to register as a sex offender and failure to obtain a special identification card as a sex offender.
In 2005, Merritt was convicted in St. Mary Parish of indecent behavior with juveniles. Merritt allegedly failed to meet sex offender registration requirements and detectives with the St. Mary Parish Sex Offender Compliance Division obtained warrants for his arrest. Merritt was already incarcerated at the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center. No bail is set.
Hebert reported responding to 38 complaints and reported the following arrests:
—Cody B. Sons, 20, of the 300 block of Clarke Road in Bayou Vista, at 11:24 p.m. Monday on charges of no driver’s license and speeding.
A deputy running radar on La. 182 near Jupiter Street in Bayou Vista observed a vehicle traveling 53 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Sons. While speaking with Sons, the deputy learned that he was operating the vehicle without a driver’s license. Sons was released on a summons to appear in court on March 7, 2016.
—Travis Andrews, 46, of the 100 block of Hendricks Street in Patterson, at 12:10 a.m. today for hit-and-run driving.
A deputy responded to Franklin Foundation Hospital in reference to a report of a subject being treated for injuries caused by a vehicle crash. During the course of the investigation, the deputy learned that Andrews lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons and struck a pipeline marker and a short metal pole in the 400 block of La. 182 in Bayou Vista. Andrews left the scene of the crash. The deputy located his vehicle at a residence on Mercury Road. Andrews was released on a summons to appear in court on March 7, 2016.
—Kacy Norman, 30, of the 32000 block of Bayou Sorrel Road in Plaquemine, was additionally charged at 12:37 p.m. Monday on a warrant for operation of a clandestine laboratory.
Narcotics detectives received information that methamphetamine was being produced in a wooded area off La. 182 in Amelia. Detectives searched the location and found eight one-pot methamphetamine labs as well as other items used to make the illegal drug. Detectives contacted crime and death scene cleaners, Xtreme Cleaners, who properly disposed of the labs.
Continuing the investigation, the detective learned that Norman assisted Lee Boudreaux in making methamphetamine. Boudreaux was arrested Dec. 17 in relation to this case. Norman admitted to detectives that she purchased cold medicine for Boudreaux to make meth in exchange for a small amount of the drug. Detectives obtained a warrant for her arrest. Norman was already incarcerated at the Morgan City Police Department jail. No bail is set.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Johnathan H. Palmer, 42, of the 200 block of Progresso Road in Patterson, at 7:31 p.m. on a charge of simple battery. Palmer was released on bail set at $409.
—Kailyn Broussard, 17, of the 5400 block of West Park Avenue in Houma, at 7:31 p.m. on a charge of simple battery. Broussard was released on bail set at $409.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
Beau Boudreaux, 17, of Southeast Boulevard in Morgan City, at 12:01 a.m. today on charges for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and license plate light required. Boudreaux remains in jail. Bail is set at $3,750.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Travis Singleton, 32, of Leona Street in Morgan City, at 9:18 a.m. Sunday on the charges of hit-and-run driving and careless operation of a vehicle.
An officer patrolling near Fourth Street observed a vehicle with damage on the side of the road. The officer noticed that the vehicle also appeared to have been dragged from the road recently. The officer then located a second parked vehicle that had been struck in the area, Blair said. The officer located the driver of the first vehicle, identified as Singleton. The officer spoke with Singleton, who stated that his front wheel came off his vehicle at which time he stopped, Blair said. Singleton stated that someone came outside of a residence and assisted him in pushing the vehicle off the roadway. The officer located evidence that showed Singleton struck the parked car and drove a short distance before stopping, Blair said. Singleton was jailed.
—Alex Soto, 21, of Federal Avenue in Morgan City, at 12:26 p.m. Sunday on the charges of hit-and-run driving, no driver’s license and improper left turn.
Officers were called to an accident in the area of Victor II Boulevard and La 70. Before arriving at the scene, officers learned that one of the vehicles was leaving the scene, and that vehicle was being followed, Blair said. The officers were able to stop the vehicle at Myrtle Street and La. 182 and speak with the driver, identified as Soto. Soto stated that he had hit something, but did not know what he hit, Blair said. Officers spoke with the driver of the second vehicle who stated that Soto turned left in front of her. She attempted to stop but could not, Blair said. She stated that after striking her vehicle, Soto kept going, Blair said. Officers learned that Soto did not have a valid license. Soto was jailed.
—Kyle Rhett, 24, of General McArthur Street in Morgan City, at 3:04 pm Monday on a warrant with City Court of Morgan City for failure to appear on the charges of driving under suspension, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I synthetic marijuana, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I MDMA, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law, obstruction of justice and drug paraphernalia.
—Jalen Walker, 20, of Adams Street in Morgan City, at 3:04 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession with intent to distribute Schedule I synthetic marijuana, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I MDMA, violation of uniform controlled dangerous substance law, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
An officer located Rhett, who was named in warrants from the City Court of Morgan City, at a local motel. During the arrest of Rhett, the officer observed a pill on the floor that appeared to be MDMA. The officer also noticed a small bag with serval pills suspected to be MDMA. The officer secured the room and the other subject in the room, identified as Walker. After gaining a search warrant, the officers located suspected synthetic marijuana packaged for sale along with items of suspected drug paraphernalia. The area is near a drug and firearm free zone.
