Police investigate Sunday stabbing

Morgan City Police Department received a disturbance report regarding a stabbing incident located on Pecan Street at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Both victim and suspect are residents of Morgan City.

Upon the police officers’ arrival, an unnamed victim had received a stab wound and was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center, Captain Betty Augman said.

Officers found and identified Nicholas Wiggins as the suspect. Wiggins sustained injuries to the head. He was also transported to Teche Regional.

No arrest was made at the time because of Wiggins’ injuries.

After arriving at Teche, both victim and suspect were taken via air-med to a New Orleans medical facility. The victim remains in serious condition. The last reported information received about Wiggins’ condition is stable, Augman said.

The investigation continues.
