Police: Morgan City man gets caught with cocaine

A 58-year-old Morgan City man was arrested after officers discovered cocaine in his possession, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.

Arthur J. Cole, 58, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:29 p.m. Monday on the charges of possession of cocaine and obstruction of justice.

Officers responded to a local apartment complex on La. 182 in regards to a call of illegal drug activity.

The caller provided officers with a description of the subject who was alleged to have been involved in an illegal drug transaction. Officers arrived when Cole, who matched the description provided, was located in the area.

Cole was advised of the complaint. He allowed officers to search his person. A search was conducted when suspected cocaine was located by officers .

Reports indicated that Cole attempted to swallow some of the suspected cocaine as an attempt to dispose of it.

Cole was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated .

Blair reported the following arrests:

—Don T. Bennett Jr., 28, of Second Street in Patterson, at 7:09 p.m. Saturday on the charge of violation of a protective order.

An officer responded to a convenience store on La. 182 in regards to a subject violating a protective order. The officer located Bennett in the parking lot of the business and was identified as the person on the protective order.

The officer spoke with the affiant of the court order who provided a copy of the protective order, which stated he was not to be within 200 feet of the affiant. Bennett was placed under arrest and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where he was booked and incarcerated .

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 33 complaints and reported no arrests in east St. Mary Parish.

Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.

Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
